Preventing disease is a much better option than trying to deal with disease outbreaks. We strongly recommend bringing pet birds in for ‘well bird’ examinations as soon as they are acquired and annually so that our avian veterinarians can guide you as to appropriate diets, care and husbandry to prevent common disease problems. Your vet may recommend diagnostic checks such as droppings tests for worm parasites or blood tests for chlamydia or other diseases depending on individual circumstances. For bird breeders, aviculturists and pigeon racers we recommend checking in regarding disease prevention programs tailored to your particular circumstances.
