Did you know a microchip is the only way to prove that a bird is 100% yours? Since lots of birds look alike, it can be difficult to verify whether a found bird is yours or not. Most species of birds can be microchipped, the only birds that we would be hesitant to do the procedure on would be canaries and finches due to their size.
Small birds do require a short, light anaesthetic due to the size of the needle, but the chip itself is about the size of a grain of rice. Species that require an anaesthetic include budgies, cockatiels, lovebirds, parrotlets, conures, small lorikeets and small Indian ringnecks. Species such as alexandrines, eclectus, cockatoos, macaws, african greys, amazons and pigeons do not require an anaesthetic, but if they are highly stressed, we may recommend it to reduce their anxiety.
This chip comes with a lifetime subscription, and you will feel secure in knowing that your pet has an easy way to be identified and returned to you safely. Some birds come with a leg ring, but these are mainly used by breeders to identify babies in the nest and are not traceable through any national or local database.
